The exhibition is on view through Oct. 14 in the library’s Conti Family Community Room. Ori will give a photographic tour of the project at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, followed by a public reception. The program is hosted by the Friends of New Providence Memorial Library.
For the project, Ori spent months researching and photographing the interiors and exteriors of 40 historical sites across the county. Her images bring together buildings, furnishings, costumes and artifacts to create a visual record of the people who lived, worked and gathered in the region across four centuries.
The featured locations range from familiar landmarks such as Liberty Hall in Union, the Trailside Nature & Science Center in Mountainside and the Drake House Museum in Plainfield to smaller sites including the Eaton Store Museum in Hillside and the Carter House in Summit. Together, the photographs trace a layered local history that can sometimes be overlooked in everyday travel through the county.
Ori, who owns New Jersey Media Center in Berkeley Heights, works in product, portrait and food photography as well as fine-art photography. She has taught photography in a variety of settings, including museum programs and private instruction, and was taught by Ansel Adams before working for many years as a teaching assistant with the Ansel Adams Workshop in California.
The Friends invite residents to view the exhibition and attend the Oct. 6 presentation. More information is available through the New Providence Library Gallery online.
